ECHO finances a range of partners, which include NGOs, UN agencies and the Red Cross Movement, to provide assistance to people affected by both natural and manmade disaster.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Programme Officer - Nutrition (PO) will be based in the ECHO Regional Support Office in Nairobi and will report to the Head of Office.

Duties & Responsibilities
The Programme Officer - Nutrition (PO) will be based in the ECHO Regional Support Office in Nairobi and will report to the Head of Office.
The PO serves the nutrition sector by undertaking the following responsibilities:
- Assess nutritional aspects of humanitarian situations in the region and provide recommendations on appropriate response ,
- Provide advice and support ECHO Field Offices and HQ Desk Officers at operational, programmatic and strategic levels,
- Contribute to the internal Food Assistance, Health and Nutrition technical working groups for the development of nutrition specific guideline/guidance internal policy work, and
- Follow up the application of best practices amongst DG-ECHO partners.
The
PO is required to travel to carry out regular missions to identify and
assess humanitarian needs and to monitor programmes in the Central,
Eastern and Southern Africa countries as well as other countries of
ECHO’s engagement if required.
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- A degree in Nutrition or Public Health or equivalent experience of minimum10 years
- A minimum of five years work experience in the humanitarian sector; good knowledge of international NGOs and UN aid agencies is an advantage
- Work experience outside Kenya in an international setting is an advantage;
- Very good understanding of nutrition and public health technical guidelines;
- Thorough knowledge of local government nutrition policies, rules and procedures relating to grants and Project Cycle Management.
Required Skills
- Fluent written and spoken English are required. Understanding of French language is an advantage.
- Personal initiative; ability to work both independently and in a team, with ability to set priorities, and to work to tight deadlines;
- Commitment, determination, reliability and a high degree of personal integrity & discretion;
- Ability to analyse and process information;
- Ability to clearly and concisely convey information to others.
