Job vacancies in the Office of the Auditor- General Kenya

Principal Auditor – Kenao Scale 6 - 21 Vacancies

Duties and Responsibilities
  • A Principal Auditor will head a Unit responsible for financial audits, specialized audits or investigations in National Government entities and Counties.
  • He/she may also be deployed in the Corporate Services Department or assigned any other duty or responsibility the Office may deem appropriate.
  • A Principal Auditor will be responsible for the overall supervision and operation of the Unit including day to day administration, staff development and discipline.
  • He/she will also be responsible for the accuracy of accounts, reports or other correspondence emanating from the Unit.
Requirements for Appointment

Appointment to the grade of Principal Auditor will be made from candidates who have:
  • A Bachelor’s degree from any of the Kenyan universities or other recognized universities or institutions, preferably in fields relevant to the audit function such as Auditing, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, ICT, Law, Business Administration, Environmental Management related degrees, Civil/Structural engineering or other relevant disciplines.
  • Passed Part III of the CPA (K) examination or its recognized equivalent; or possessing CISA, CIA, CFE, CFA qualifications with a minimum of 5 years relevant, proven experience;
  • Ten years audit experience in a large audit organization, five of which should be at audit management level.
  • Applicants from Office of the Auditor - General who are qualified for promotion to the grade of Principal Auditor in accordance with the Scheme of Service for Audit Examiners and Auditors will be considered.

Auditor III – Kenao Scale 10 - 38 Vacancies

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Auditor III is the entry grade for Auditors who will undergo the normal departmental training in all aspects of audit work in National Government entities and Counties.
  • The training will also cover matters and issues relating to both Specialized Audit and Corporate Services Departments.
  • Specifically, an Auditor III will undertake a variety of auditing work of prescribed scope and complexity which will include financial audit, specialized audit, and investigations of National Government entities and Counties under the supervision of a senior officer.

  • Services Department or assigned any other duty or responsibility the Office may deem appropriate.
Requirements for Appointment
  • Direct appointment to the grade of Auditor III will be made from candidates who are in possession of a Bachelor’s degree from any of the Kenyan universities or other recognized universities or institutions, preferably in fields relevant to the audit function such as Auditing, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, ICT, Law, Business Administration, Environmental Management related degrees, Civil/Structural engineering or other relevant disciplines.

Personal Secretary III – Kenao Scale 11 - 10 Vacancies

a) Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
  • recording dictation in shorthand and transcribing it in typewritten form;
  • processing data;
  • management of e-office;
  • ensuring security of office records, documents and equipment;
  • operating office equipment;
  • management of office protocol;
  • managing office petty cash;
  • handling telephone calls and appointments;
  • and undertaking any other secretarial duties that may be assigned.
  • An officer at this level may be required to work for more than one officer.
Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:-
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, mean grade C-(minus) with at least C (plain) in English Language or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • The following qualifications from the Kenya National Examination Council:-
  1. Typewriting III (50 w.p.m./Computerized Document Processing III
  2. Shorthand II (80 w.p.m.)
  3. Business English II/Communications I
  4. Office Practice II
  5. Secretarial Duties II
  6. Commerce II
  7. Office Management III/Office Administration and Management III;
Or
  • A Diploma / Higher Diploma in Secretarial studies from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) or equivalent qualifications from a recognized Institution; and
  • A Certificate in Computer Applications (Windows, Ms-Word, Ms-Excel, Ms-Access and Internet) from a recognized Institution.

Secretarial Assistants II- Kenao Scale 13 - 18 Vacancies

Duties and Responsibilities

Secretarial Assistant II is the entry and training grade for Secretarial Assistants.
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
  • typing from manuscripts;
  • processing data; operating office equipment;
  • ensuring security of office equipment;
  • documents and records;
  • attending to visitors/clients; handling telephone calls and appointments;
  • and undertaking other secretarial duties that may be assigned.
  • The officer may be required to work for more than one officer or may be deployed in a typing pool
Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to the grade of a Secretarial Assistant II, a candidate must have:
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade C-(minus) with at least a C(plain) in English Language or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • The following qualifications from the Kenya National Examinations Council:-
  1. Typewriting II (minimum 40 w.p.m.)/Computerized Document Processing II;
  2. Business English I/Communications I;
  3. Office Practice I;
  4. Commerce I; and
A Certificate in Computer Applications (Windows, Ms-Word, Ms-Excel, Ms-Access and Internet) from a recognized Institution.

Driver III – Kenao Scale 16 - 11 Vacancies

Duties and Responsibilities

This is the entry grade into the Driver’s cadre.
Duties and responsibilities at this level will involve:
  • driving a motor vehicle as authorized;
  • carrying out routine checks on the vehicles, detecting and reporting malfunctioning of vehicle systems;
  • maintenance of work tickets for vehicles assigned;
  • ensuring security and safety for the vehicle on and off the road;
  • safety of the passengers and /or goods therein;
  • and maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle.
Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade ‘D’ (plain) or its equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;
  • A valid driving license free from any current endorsement(s) for class (es) of vehicle(s) an officer is required to drive;
  • Attended a First-Aid Certificate Course lasting not less than on (1) week at St. John Ambulance or Kenya institute of Highway and building technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized Institution;
  • Passed Suitability Test for Driver Grade III;
  • A valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya Police; and
  • At least two (2) years accident- free driving experience.

Senior Support Staff – Kenao Scale 16 - 10 Vacancies

Duties and Requirements

Successful candidates will carry out messengerial services or any other duties that may be assigned from time to time

Requirements for Appointments:

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) Division IV or Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade of D+ or ‘D’ (plain)

Interested and qualified persons are requested to download application forms PSC2 (Revised 2007) and PSC2A from KENAO’s website www.kenao.go.ke or from the Public Service Commission of Kenya.
  • Applicants from the Public Service should complete three (3) copies of both PSC2 (Revised 2007) and PSC2A forms.
All the three (3) copies of duly completed PSC2 (Revised 2007) forms should be submitted to the Auditor-General.

The original copy of PSC2A forms should be submitted to the Auditor-General through Heads of Departments who will complete part II of the form and forward it to the Auditor-General.

Duplicate and triplicate copies of PSC2A should be submitted directly to the Auditor-General.
  • Applicants who are not in the Public Service should complete three (3) copies of PSC2 (Revised 2007) forms and submit them directly to the Auditor-General.
  • In all cases, copies of the applicant’s certificates, testimonials and ID card (not originals) should be attached to the duly completed original copies of application forms.
