PROGRAMME MANAGER JOBS
(a) Background
Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) is a network of women parliamentarians,
both elected and nominated across all political parties nationwide who believe in the equal
rights of women to participate in all aspects of governance of their country and who are
therefore committed to ensuring that the country’s policy making and legislative institutions
redress gender disparities and other injustices that contribute to poverty and undermine
sustainable development.
As part of strengthening our secretariat operations, we seek to recruit two qualified and committed
individuals to join our team as Programme Managers on annual renewable contracts depending on
performance.
(b) Main duties and responsibilities
. Identifying, recommending and mobilizing resources for various projects including developing
exceptional proposals and concepts in line with the strategic plan; for financial support and
sustainability of the programme. This includes collaboration with team members and
maintaining a well managed proposal tracking matrix.
. Design projects including project budgets, project work plans and ensure their timely, cost
effective and successful implementation to achieve overall programme objectives and
organizational strategic goals.
. Monitor and evaluate project progress against project milestones and activities as per scheduled
work plans and overall project objectives.
. Providing strategic leadership to programmatic work and ensure compliance to organizational
policies, processes and procedures, donor and government policies.
. Maintaining grant reporting schedules and preparing quality programme reports including
monthly, quarterly, mid-year and annual reports to ensure submission by due dates.
. Participate in the planning and execution of identified thematic areas such as research and
technical material review always playing a leading role in the development of advocacy and
publicity materials to ensure they meet the required quality.
. Contribute to enhancing the visibility of the organization across key stakeholders by developing
links, representing the organization in forums and sharing experiences with relevant
stakeholders; using the opportunity to advocate, promote and maintain partnerships to support
enhancing achievement of organizational vision and mission.
. Identifying and recommending bench-marks for best practices to the organization.
. Support in the preparation of the scope and terms of reference for consultant contracts and
other relevant service providers in accordance with organizational policies and procedures
including follow ups to facilitate successful delivery of work by such service providers.
. Supervising programmatic work including organization of events, communicating project
priorities and objectives to staff for mutual understanding and ownership, supporting and
mentoring staff including projects officers, Associates, Assistants and Interns to ensure that
programme milestones and objectives are always achieved.
(c) Required skills and experience
. Bachelors Degree in Law, social sciences, development sciences, communication or any other
relevant field.
. At least four years’ progressive work experience in policy advocacy in parliamentary
strengthening programmes.
. Masters Degree in Law, social sciences, development sciences, communication or any other
relevant field will be an added advantage.
(d) Key competencies
. Demonstrated knowledge of gender and women representation issues.
. Strong managerial and organizational acumen.
. Understanding of results-oriented programmatic methodologies.
. Diplomatic leader who is highly self motivated and self driven.
